so..."metamorphosis". change. growth. this collection is the epitome of my experience with finally breaking free from many things, but somehow also getting caught in more. as per usual, it's a tad pessimistic. but it's just the beginning of a new chapter!

 

the course of writing this album has been a long winding road. ties were cut that i thought i'd never have the strength to, and the cast of people in my life shifted.

 

most notably for my music, my previous producer and i are no longer in contact, and has not been involved in anything whatsoever since the release of "you belong with me". this has obviously been a HUGE shift in my workflow, and is partially the reason METAMORPHOSIS took so long to come out...sorry!!!

 

from a musical standpoint, i would say this was a pretty experimental album. i never want to confine myself to a specific genre or style, but i do gravitate to certain ones more. although i have dropped three self-produced singles already, METAMORPHOSIS was a great way to explore more about my style of music and how it compares to my older stuff.

 

it is also very focused on remixes! i thought it would be a fun gimmick for an album called METAMORPHOSIS... considering it's all about change. just about every aspect of this album is about change:

 

• the whole album is a weird in-between of an EP and an album. 5 brand new songs...plus 1 old song, 4 remixes, and 2 special versions... whether it's an "album" or not depends on if you consider everything besides the new songs "bonus". this is something i've never done before!

• change is an integral theme on multiple songs in the album. even if it isn't always super clear in the lyrics, it is an underlying part of them. of course, i didn't limit myself to specifically just write about that, since it would limit my creativity. but I'm sure you could make arguments that all of them contain at least some form of it.​

• every song is about a different and new person/concept, with absolutely no repeats! (this is a first!)

  • on that same note, not a single song is directed towards The Catalyst. this is also a first. #healing

• visually, ​the cover/promo art was purposefully made to be different from my normal color scheme of...constant purple. but despite being different, it is still the same at its core (red + blue = purple).

• from a musical standpoint, of course, the big change was producing the whole album completely by myself for the first time. i spent a lot of time digging through new sounds and resources to try and get a unique sound separate from my producer, but still wholeheartedly "me". i'm not sure if i accomplished it, but i tried my best!
